This month, students in Mr. Andrew and Ms. Kim’s 2/3 class have been learning about characters. They’ve been exploring character traits and emotions, choosing adjectives to describe them, and finding supporting detail to explain the adjectives they selected.
The students brought this lesson to life last Wednesday when they created character masks, and used those to retell stories they have been reading. Each kid presented his or her mask and story to the class and the families who came to watch. The stories the students chose, the characters they represented, and the masks that they created were all so creative and different from one another. And it was great to see the kids persevering when they were nervous or having a little trouble telling their stories. They also showed community by supporting their fellow students and appreciating each other.
