This year our second and third grade teachers decided to have our 3rd annual camping trip in the fall (normally done in the spring). This wonderful SFC tradition of camping has been happening since SFC began around 40 years ago. For the last 3 years the teachers, students and their families have gone for an overnight at Rob Hill Campground hosted by Camping at the Presidio (CAP) program. We left the school Wednesday October 12 in the morning and took the bus to the campground. We got there and had our opening circle to go over expectations and rules for the trip. We were told how to put up our tents and then split into groups and spread out in different areas on our shared camp site.
After setting up we made lunch and then went on a hike down to Baker Beach. Everyone hung out… some got wet!
We came back to camp and had some free time where people played games or cards or just hung around. Our principal even came by for some fun! We had a fabulous dinner where everyone pitched in and then time by the campfire with songs and marshmallows (pictures were too dark!). It was quiet time by 8:30 after a long day!
After sleeping in our tents and trying to stay away from the skunks after dark we woke up and had some breakfast and packed up our camp site. Everyone then took a last hike (walk) over to Fort Winfield Scott field where we had our lunch and the kids played on the field. Some played soccer and some ran around and some did arts and crafts. We had our closing circle there where every did either a celebration or talked about what was their favorite part of camping. After we walked back to camp and got on the bus back to SFC. The most common favorite part was being with community, friends and getting to know people better. Thanks to all who helped make this such a special event for the kids!
