Our Campus

SF Community School is located at 125 Excelsior Avenue (cross-street London) in the Excelsior neighborhood, one block up from the bustling Mission Street corridor. SFC has had 3 locations since its founding in 1972, moving to the current site in 1987. Our buildings house our full K-8 program, with lower grades on the first and second floors and upper grades on the third floor. Two play yards offer students multiple opportunities for recess and physical education activities, and include a thriving herb and vegetable garden, which serves as a rich, outdoor learning space, as well as a play structure, basketball courts, and lots of space to run. Our Library is in a bungalow in the yard, which features a student-designed and painted mural. The Library building also serves as our computer and technology lab. Additionally, we have a cafeteria with a full kitchen that hosts breakfast and lunch daily, as well as community events. Our school building is adjacent to the Boys and Girls Club, and we have exclusive use of the gymnasium in that building during school hours, where students participate in our physical education program. We also hold whole-school events in the gymnasium.

SFC is an active member of the Excelsior neighborhood, opening our doors to the community at school and neighborhood events.  We partner with many neighborhood organizations, the Excelsior Boys and Girls Club, Bay Area Community Resources, and the OMI Excelsior Beacon Center.

We are located .8 miles from the Glen Park BART station and 1 mile from the Balboa Park BART station. Several bus lines serve our school, including the 14-Mission, 49-Van Ness Mission, and the 52-Excelsior, allowing easy access to other city neighborhoods.

Our building was constructed in 1911 and is one of the oldest in the San Francisco Unified School District. Recent renovations include a complete overhaul of the building exterior, increasing our accessibility and bringing the site into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and modernizing our site with updated floors and new paint.
