Grades 6-8 comprise the (very small!) Middle School at SFC. Students in the middle school begin the day in a small advisory of 16, then move between math (class size 17), science, PE, Humanities (Language Arts/ Social Studies) and enrichment (art, ELD, technology, special programs, etc. There are 99 students in our middle school and thus we work closely to get to know and appropriately differentiate for every student in our program.
8th graders visit a variety of high schools together and are given much support in the high school application process. The 8th grade year culminates with a formal, 45-minute portfolio presentation and a 4-day camping trip in Yosemite.
Middle School clubs include SPARK (an internship and job-skills program), Youth Outreach Workers (peer educators for tobacco, alcohol, and drug prevention), Teaching Assistants, Reading Buddies, the Gay-Straight Alliance, Virtue Club, Boy’s Group, and Task Force (student government). Middle School Sports teams, which are open to girls and boys grades 6-8, include basketball, soccer, and track (baseball and softball offered through our partnering school, Denman).
