At SF Community School, community isn't just a part of our name; it's at the heart of everything we do. We believe in fostering strong bonds between students, teachers, families, and neighbors to create a supportive and inclusive environment. From collaborative learning initiatives, to family inclusive events, to artistic endeavors, our commitment to unity and togetherness is our foundation.

We are so very proud to share the completion of a remarkable project that has added vitality to our school and neighborhood environment. Our school library, located at the corner of Excelsior Avenue and London Street, now features a large-scale mosaic which stands as both a representation and a testament to the creativity and collaborative spirit of our community. What makes this project truly special is that it was a collective effort involving every student in our school, along family and neighbors. From design to hands-on mosaic-making, each student had the opportunity to contribute their creativity to this masterpiece. As a result, the mosaic not only beautifies our school but also serves as a powerful symbol of the collective spirit and identity of our community.

Our Mosaic Mural

This project was made possible in part by the generous support of the City’s Community Challenge Grant program. Their belief in the power of community projects to enrich educational environments has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life. Additionally, we extend our deepest gratitude to Create Peace Project for the leadership and guidance throughout the creation process.

We also thank Excelsior Action Group and our many families and neighbors for their generous contributions towards completing this beautiful work of public art.

Carnaval!

Together with Beautiful Beginnings Art Collective, SFC has now completed its second year participating in SF Carnaval! Beginning in January, the production exemplifies community spirit as participants build a float, create costumes, gather materials, rehearse and finally parade in Carnaval.

From the Beautiful Beginnings website:

Returning to the grassroots spirit of cultural street art, Beautiful Beginnings Arts Collective (BBAC)  brought together artists across genres and traditions in a breathtaking visual, moving prayer. Sea of Jubilee was the first Carnaval Comparsa organized by BBAC in collaboration with San Francisco Community School, Community Well, Bayview SOL and San Francisco Circus Center. With over 150 registered participants ages 4-86, we reverberated as a song of praise for the energy of creation.

Fun Fact: Sea of Jubilee contingent won 1st place for Children & Youth in the 2023 SF Carnaval Parade!!!
